The fruit of the mushroom is but the visible manifestation of a vast network of invisible mycelium, spanning our entire earth. Yet often we take the mushroom to be the thing itself, ignoring the existence of that which we do not perceive. The true nature, the actual reach, of many things and forces live in a realm beyond our standard devices of perception – we are given only hints, moments, fruits. From these we must deduce the existence of the invisible, or we remain ignorant to them. If we understand the tree only as what we see, only the trunk and branches and leaves without its roots, it will surely fall. The Decompositions collection is interested in the relationships between destruction and growth, between death and life, inside and outside, the tangible and the imperceptible.
