The Splat Lamp is hand built as a single piece in Shapiro’s studio. Once constructed and partially dried, three stained clay slips are catapulted at the form in layers creating a color approach that simultaneously feels purposeful and by chance. Once fired the 24k gold overglaze is hand painted and fired again creating the feeling of a gold explosion.
