Conceptualized in a dream, “The Other World Lamp” fuses function and imagination, resulting in a piece that feels as if it has a life of its own.

“The Other World Lamp” begins as a slim vessel that is thrown on the wheel. Once leather hard, Shapiro drapes over 100 feet of extruded coils up and down the form to create the illusion of movement. The stoneware is then heavily glazed producing a running effect that fuses the coils together and strengthens the individual elements.
